UNICEF condemns Hama terrorist bombing, calls for protecting schools

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) denounced the terrorist car bomb explosion which took place near a school in al-Kafat town in the countryside of Hama last Thursday and claimed the lives of a number of civilians

UNICEF Representative in Syria Youssef Abdul-Jalil noted in a press statement that the bombing took place 100 m away from the school in al-Kafat town where children had just finished exams and were leaving to their homes

He added that he thinks that many of the students were among the casualties of the terrorist explosion

The statement called for respecting the international humanitarian law on protecting children and other civilians, including protecting schools as being safe shelters for children

A suicide bomber blew himself up in a car in a densely populated area in al-Kafat town, causing the martyrdom of 17 citizens and injuring others, most of them women, children and elderly people
