Legislative Decree on motor vehicles registered in Transport Directorates

President Bashar al-Assad on Monday issued legislative decree No. 3 for the year 2014 on motor vehicles registered in Transport Directorates

According to the decree, owners of motor vehicles registered in the Transport Directorates are not allowed to transport their vehicles outside the country through the borders for the purpose of selling them unless an exportation statement is set and full financial charges are paid (article 1)

A fine estimated as five times equal to the definite price set when the vehicle was first registered is imposed on an owner who sells their vehicle outside the country in contradiction to article 1

According to the decree, it is prohibited for a vehicle to stay outside the country for a period that exceeds one year since the departure date

Owners of motor vehicles who are currently outside the country are granted a three-month period to settle the situation of their vehicles under the penalty of imposing a charge estimated as five times equal to the definite price set when the vehicle was first registered

Transport Minister Mahmoud Saeed told SANA that the decree aims to limit the selling of Syrian vehicles aboard in a manner that violates customs regulations, and that it will help preserve the stability of the car market in Syria and preserve the available vehicles
